Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday said European bureaucracy was destroying the European civilisation, the co-creators of which were Georgians.
In his interview with POSTV channel, Papuashvili noted it was unclear whether these actions stem from unconscious decisions or deliberate harmful intent.
“European civilisation is something that we, Georgians, are co-creators of. It is precisely this civilisation and these values that the European bureaucracy is destroying today. I do not know if this is an unconscious step on their part or intentional harm”, the Speaker said.
He further suggested that the situation may partly resemble the complex of an adolescent abandoned by a guardian, now acting somewhat irrationally, while emphasising that the truths being discussed are evident.
“They are damaging European civilisation and all the benefits associated with Europe; they are undermining it not only in the eyes of Georgians but in the eyes of Europeans themselves. This is why we see the strengthening of patriotic forces in Europe today. This is also why we support the trend of truly pro-European forces - those for whom genuine European values are paramount - coming into power in every country; that people who are patriots of their own country, their people, and the common European cause come to the lead. Until such forces come to power, it will remain difficult to establish a relationship with the European bureaucracy”, he concluded.
