The flagship carrier of the United Kingdom, British Airways, on Monday commenced operations in the Georgian aviation market.
An Airbus A320 aircraft belonging to the airline landed at Tbilisi International Airport, carrying 156 passengers on its inaugural flight. This landmark event marks the establishment of a direct air route between London and Tbilisi.
British Airways will operate direct, regular flights four times a week on the London-Tbilisi-London route. This direct connection will significantly reduce travel time between Georgia and the United Kingdom, and vice versa.
British Airways flies to over 190 destinations in 65 countries, with its main hub located at London Heathrow Airport, one of Europe's busiest aviation hubs.
The strong partnership with American Airlines will enable British Airways passengers to benefit from transit flights via London to various cities across the United States.
The launch of direct air service between the capitals of Georgia and the United Kingdom follows intensive negotiations with one of Europe's largest airlines, successfully concluded by the United Airports of Georgia with the involvement of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
