Vladimir Bozhadze, the Chair of the parliamentary political group European Socialists, on Monday claimed the EU bureaucracy was expected to continue its unfair attitude toward Georgia throughout 2026.
In his remarks, Bozhadze noted that this approach would persist as long as the Russia-Ukraine war remains unresolved.
“Everything is being done to ensure that Georgia continues to fulfill its obligations arising from the [EU] Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement, and we will continue on the path toward the European Union”, the MP said.
“Our country is demanding fair and equal treatment - the kind of partnership relations we had before the start of the Russia - Ukraine war”, Bozhadze continued.
He further added that Georgia seeks fair and equal treatment and a return to the partnership relations that existed before the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, arguing that Georgia is being unfairly punished precisely because of that war, as the country chose to protect its national and public interests.
“In addition to these processes, there are also positive developments within the EU itself. The number of countries that view the ongoing processes and the EU’s attitude toward Georgia in a more balanced and healthy way is growing. In any case, I am confident that 2026 will be a better year in relations with the European Union than 2025 was”, Bozhadze concluded.
