Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said that countries which consistently pursue their national interests ultimately succeed, while those that betray them face defeat and subordination.
In his remarks, Papuashvili contrasted Georgia’s achievements with the struggles of countries that had compromised their sovereignty for external influences.
“Those who pursue national interests win, and conversely, those who betray national interests lose and become subordinate. In contrast, we see that countries, which have subordinated their own national interests to the interests of other countries no longer have hope for peace, nor the rates of economic growth they once had. Their future does not look particularly promising either, especially if we take into account the alarm bells that have already come even from the United States toward Europe”, he said.
The Speaker further noted that in 2025 the legislative body paid special attention to the process of institutional refinement.
“We removed undemocratic practices, including procedures, from our legislation. For example, there were many issues where decision-making granted a decisive role to individuals who were not elected by the people and were funded from abroad, which directly contradicts the principles of democracy”, he continued.
He also stated that Georgia today was a country of people confident in themselves and businesses confident in their economic achievements.
“Today we are a country of people who are confident in themselves, of businesses confident in their economic achievements, and of a future that has managed to endure one of the most difficult periods of the 21st century, when the largest war on our continent is taking place. There was a strong interest in the physical and economic destruction of our country”, Papuashvili concluded.
