Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Wednesday emphasised that peace and stability were insufficient without the protection of national interests, highlighting Georgia’s focus on sovereignty and citizen security in his 2025 year-end interview with Imedi TV.
In his remarks, Kavelashvili emphasised that every respectable state prioritised the security of its own country.
“If national interests are not protected, of course, peace and stability alone are of no use. Independence and placing your national interest first are extremely important. It is important that each citizen personally feels the security of their country, their national interests, and the peace-oriented policies”, he said.
The President also stressed that Georgia had never refused membership in the European Union.
“We have never refused communication with anyone. We are open to dialogue, but at the same time we make it clear that any changes in our country will occur solely based on our national interest, and not at someone else’s request”, Kavelashvili concluded.
