In an interview with Imedi TV, Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee, on Sunday said that what was originally a peace project - in reference to the European Union - has turned into a promoter of war rhetoric, and the democracy project has transformed into a violation of democratic principles.
Speaking about the sanctions imposed on Georgian politicians, Makhasvili argued that the European Union countries made politically motivated decisions.
“Unfortunately, some EU countries made politically dictated decisions, restricting the movement of some of my colleagues without giving any opportunity to understand the actual grounds for such actions or to present their own arguments. This constitutes such a severe violation of human rights that it is impossible to look for any explanation beyond political reasoning in this process”, Makhasvili said.
