Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, on Monday criticised the European Commission’s assessment document on EU enlargement, accusing the bloc of acting selectively to suit its own interests.
In his remarks over the matter, Kadagishvili noted that the approach reflected in the document demonstrates manipulation based on political convenience, arguing that such practices undermine the very idea of the European Union.
“That is why we say that in many cases, through such approaches and such attitudes, the European Union itself devalues the idea of the EU”, the Parliament official stressed.
His remarks come after the EU Council removed provisions related to corruption and human rights from the assessment document on Ukraine and Moldova.
