Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, on Wednesday criticised the European Union’s latest stance toward Georgia, saying such rhetoric harmed relations rather than helping restore them.
Bitadze made the remarks while commenting on a document published by the EU Council Presidency on enlargement, which called on the Georgian authorities to repeal the laws on Family Values and the Protection of Minors and on Transparency.
The official noted that it was very unfortunate that the European Union continued to speak to Georgian citizens and the authorities in the language of blackmail and psychological pressure.
“It is very unfortunate that the European Union continues to speak to the Georgian public and the authorities in the language of blackmail and psychological pressure, which certainly will not contribute to resetting relations at this stage”, Bitadze said.
