Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Wednesday said the new US National Security Strategy has effectively put an end to the Alliance’s eastern enlargement.
“Unfortunately, NATO’s open-door policy has, over decades, turned into a kind of vicious circle - without concrete decisions or concrete steps, relying instead on fine words to appease expectations about the future. Sadly, this is how it has turned out”, the Parliament official said.
“The new National Security Strategy of the United States actually put an end to NATO's enlargement to the East and once again clearly showed us that the open door policy was a collection of ordinary words, and not a real policy regarding NATO's enlargement. Regrettably, many states have fallen victim to this approach”, he concluded.
