Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday outlined the key precondition for normalising relations between Georgia and Russia, stating that such a process is only possible if Russia recognises Georgia’s territorial integrity.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that Georgia’s position on the matter has long been clear.
“We have said what the precondition is for restoring relations between Georgia and Russia. Of course, these relations will be restored if the territorial integrity of Georgia is recognised by the Russian Federation. This is the path to normalisation”, the Speaker said.
He further added that the Russian Federation and its authorities were well aware of Georgia’s stance.
“Of course, we support normalisation, and the precondition for this is the recognition of Georgia’s territorial integrity”, Papuashvili concluded.
