Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, on Sunday said that recent global political developments confirm the long-standing political vision and forecasts of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Bitadze noted that the public was witnessing, on a daily basis, the validation of policies that the Georgian Dream has promoted and implemented for years with the support of Georgian citizens.
According to her, the public was observing significant political events unfolding worldwide, particularly strained relations between the United States and Europe in the context of the war in Ukraine.
“The political confrontation that we see between the United States and Europe, driven by the war in Ukraine, reflects precisely the narrative that Georgian Dream has been voicing for a long time”, the Parliament official said.
“The fact that the US today speaks about Europe using terms such as ‘civilizational decline’ clearly indicates that Europe is devaluing the very principles for which this peace-oriented bloc was created in the 1950s”, she continued.
Bitadze added that what was once conceived as a peace project was now transforming into a war project, a process she attributed to what she described as irrational European bureaucracy - an issue the Georgian Dream has repeatedly highlighted.
She emphasised that it was crucial for the plan proposed by the US President to end the war to be successfully implemented.
However, the Parliament official noted that numerous obstacles have emerged over the past month, including resistance from European bureaucratic bodies.
She concluded by saying that Ukraine was unfortunately being used as a shield to ensure Europe’s security.
