Georgia wants to be part of Europe and hopes that Europe will find the strength to survive and remain true to its traditional values, said on Sunday Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
Speaking about current challenges, Kavelashvili stressed the need for vigilance to ensure the country emerges stronger from ongoing developments.
He said success means preventing radical and violent actions, avoiding foreign interference, and making Georgia more peaceful, stable, and secure.
“We must be focused on making our country more peaceful, stable, and safe, while continuing our path of economic, social, and cultural development. Georgian citizens must be ready for this”, he said, noting that the process would not be easy.
The President further added that Georgia aims to set an example by prioritising national interests, its economy, citizens, and culture, while maintaining equal and respectful relations with all countries, including neighbouring states and partners.
“Our message must be clear to everyone: we want peace, stability, economic development, and we are ready for dialogue with all parties”, he added.
Commenting on relations with the European Union, Kavelashvili acknowledged that the EU was facing crises and multiple challenges, but expressed hope that healthy processes within Europe would prevail.
“Despite these difficulties, we hope Europe will find the strength within itself to develop in a way that Europe deserves. We definitely want to be part of Europe. We must hold on to the hope that Europe will find the strength to survive and remain as it has traditionally been for centuries”, he concluded.
