David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Saturday said that the European Union’s current policies were leading it toward an ideological and value-based collapse, citing assessments reflected in the US National Security Strategy.
Commenting on criticism voiced by the United States toward European institutions, Matikashvili pointed to sections of the updated US National Security Strategy that address developments within the European Union.
“The policy pursued by the European Union will inevitably lead this union of states toward collapse. This is an ideological and value-based collapse, and this is explicitly stated in the updated US National Security Strategy. This has also been repeatedly noted by the President of the United States and representatives of his administration, who have pointed to these very misguided and self-damaging political actions taking place within the European Union”, he said.
The official also noted that Eurocrats tend to reject external criticism but would eventually be forced to recognise the consequences of their actions.
“Naturally, [Eurocrats] do not accept criticism. They will be forced to acknowledge the flawed, incorrect, and self-destructive policies they have been pursuing in recent times,” Matikashvili concluded.
