Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to the country, was politically biased, which was why he avoided talking about a topic that would not be beneficial for the domestic radical opposition.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that Fischer’s term of office would expire soon and expressed hope that he would be replaced by an ambassador who would work to improve relations between Georgia and Germany.
“Mr. Fischer is politically biased. It is not worth saying much beyond that, his term of office will expire soon and we can only hope that he will be replaced by an ambassador who will take care not to worsen relations between Georgia and Germany, but on the contrary, to improve these relations. We must hope for this. He is politically biased, he very often intervenes in politics in favour of the [domestic] opposition, but in this case, when he had to give an answer that would be detrimental to the [domestic] opposition, of course, he did not want to talk to journalists. It is absolutely clear that he has a political bias”, the PM said.
