Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday commented on the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s recent statement, saying that the principle of sovereignty has suddenly reappeared in European rhetoric, despite being repeatedly violated by Eurocrats in relation to Georgia.
“They now remember the principle of sovereignty - that no one should interfere in the internal affairs of another state. Yet European bureaucracy has been violating this principle against us on a daily basis”, Kobakhidze said.
In his remarks, the PM noted that von der Leyen’s statement demonstrated double standards.
“Today, the current US administration evaluates processes in Europe in exactly the same way we have assessed them over the past years, which the European bureaucracy does not like. They have now remembered the principle of sovereignty, but for years they have violated this principle in their dealings with Georgia. These are clear double standards. The US administration is accurately evaluating the processes unfolding in the EU, and this is exactly how we have assessed these processes throughout the years”, Kobakhidze concluded.
