Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Thursday said it was time for the Eurocrats to wake up, and it was time for the European people in general to wake up.
In his remarks, Machavariani noted that over the past four years, the Eurocrats pursued their own agenda, specifically after Georgia refused to open a second front amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“We are already used to this unjust treatment toward Georgia, so it’s not difficult to predict what they will say next. We expect more negative comments - ‘democratic backsliding’, ‘Georgia is collapsing’, and so on. This is their habit. But it is time for the EU to wake up, for these Eurocrats to wake up, and for the European people in general to wake up. Common sense must prevail in Europe, just as it did in the United States”, the ruling party official said.
He further added that EU bureaucrats were demonstrating “absolute disregard” toward Georgia.
“This is their attitude, and of course we have no leverage other than standing firm. We respond to their baseless disinformation with facts and arguments, as we always do. Here, revolutions and NGO activities are being financed. Yet we have not heard a single condemnation! At long last, why can’t they say they distance themselves from the attempted violent overthrow of the state on October 4? The European Commission’s spokesperson even openly expressed solidarity with that overthrow attempt”, Machavariani continued.
According to him, the European Union has now placed itself in the very isolation it once predicted for Georgia.
