Rati Ionatamishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights and Civic Integration Committee, on Thursday said that Georgia had been the first to point out that the European Union was no longer acting in the interest of Europe - a message he now hears echoed from the United States, including in its newly articulated security doctrine.
According to Ionatamishvili, a “civilizational crisis and decadence” have reached an alarming level.
“I believe this fact is deeply concerning, as European bureaucracy has placed Europe in a very difficult position. For Europe to survive, the European bureaucracy must change”, he said.
He argued that the fundamental cause of the current situation is the EU bureaucracy’s and the European Union’s betrayal of “traditional and fundamental European values.”
“Double standards and war rhetoric have taken a leading place in their agenda”, Ionatamishvili added.
