Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday said it was very good that the United States was lecturing European bureaucrats on democracy.
Machavariani responded to recent statements from European Council President António Costa and European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas, who argued that political actors should refrain from meddling in the domestic affairs of other states. Their comments came amid controversy surrounding US criticism of developments in EU member states.
“It is very good that everything has turned out this way, because over the past four years I will remind the public how blatantly Eurocrats have interfered in our internal affairs, in the judiciary. They dictate to us what law we should adopt, what law we should not adopt. They send delegations, foreign ministers to anti-government rallies, and this is completely unacceptable”, Machavariani said.
“It is very good that now the United States of America has lectured Eurobureaucrats on democracy, just like [the United States Vice President] JD Vance did at the beginning of the year, when he made his famous speech”, he concluded.
