Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday said that recent remarks by European officials denying interference in Georgia’s internal affairs were “not only laughable, but offensive”, stressing that their actions amount to direct political interference.
Kirtskhalia commented on reports that, following criticism from the United States, the President of the European Council and the Vice-President of the European Commission were protesting what they called “interference in internal affairs”.
“When we look at their actions, statements, and the instructions they issue to their agents with regard to our country, their remarks are not only laughable but insulting. They are not just interfering - they are directly involved in Georgia’s internal political processes. We all saw what happened in Ukraine and the policy behind it, which brought the country to its current state. We also saw clearly what they intended in relation to Georgia”, he noted.
António Costa and Kaja Kallas now insist they do not intervene in the domestic matters of other countries and that such interference is wrong.
Georgia’s example, however, shows the opposite. Kallas has made numerous statements that amount to direct interference in Georgia’s internal affairs, with political assessments issued about developments in Tbilisi.
