Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said that concerns Tbilisi had been raising with Brussels for years were now being openly acknowledged by the European Union’s key partner and main security guarantor - the United States.
In a social media message, Papuashvili noted that the issue was no longer just a warning from the Georgian Government.
“Importantly, the problems we have long been pointing out to Brussels are now being raised by the United States - the EU’s main partner and primary security guarantor. This is no longer just a warning from the Georgian authorities - it is an alarm bell sounded from within the West itself, urging Europe to wake up and address its deepening, systemic political crisis”, the Speaker said.
He argued that irresponsible policies by EU leaders have pushed Europe “to the edge of a civilisational abyss - a place where economic stability is eroding, cultural identity is being destroyed, and the value-based foundation of the European idea is being called into question”.
Papuashvili further added that the EU can no longer ignore these developments and emphasized the need for clear political decisions and a reassessment of existing approaches.
