Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday said that the hybrid attacks directed against Georgia were intended to undermine the country’s stability and statehood, stir public unrest through fabricated narratives, and ultimately harm Georgia’s national interests.
According to Kobakhidze, intensive investigative actions will continue in connection with alleged assistance provided by specific individuals to a foreign organisation engaged in hostile activities.
“Since there is nothing left to clarify or investigate regarding the use of so-called Camite and other prohibited substances, investigative procedures on that aspect have been fully exhausted, and the matter is closed”, he said.
“As for the most important part of the ongoing investigation - assistance by certain individuals to a foreign organisation engaged in hostile activities - intensive investigative actions will continue. Any individual or group for whom a sufficient body of evidence is collected, confirming that their deliberate actions seriously harmed Georgia’s national interests, international image, and reputation, and were directed toward undermining the country’s state interests, will be punished with the full force of the law”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze expressed gratitude to Georgia’s State Security Service and its leadership for promptly investigating the issues raised in what he referred to as a “report filled with lies”.
He emphasised that the goal of the hybrid attack carried out against Georgia was to shake the country’s statehood, provoke public unrest with invented themes, and damage Georgia’s national interests by fueling further confrontation.
“We state with full responsibility that the Georgian state, the Government of Georgia, and the State Security Service, which is responsible for the security of our country, political stability, and protection of the public’s best interests, will not allow foreign intelligence services and their local operatives to endanger Georgia’s statehood or harm national interests”, the Prime Minister concluded.
