The Georgian State Security Service on Saturday declared that the chemical agent Camite has never been purchased by Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and that claims made in the BBC film were intentionally false.
Lasha Maghradze, the First Deputy Head of the State Security Service, stated that the investigation has gathered conclusive evidence demonstrating that the allegation of Camite use during the 2024 protests was entirely fabricated.
“The irrefutable evidence obtained by the investigation gives us grounds to conclude that the information voiced in the BBC film about the use of the so-called chemical weapon Camite against protesters in Georgia is complete and deliberate disinformation and serves to damage Georgia’s interests. Unfortunately, Georgian citizens are also involved in this. Together with the BBC authors, their actions are part of a well-planned, organised, and campaign-style effort aimed at achieving specific hostile objectives against Georgia”, the statement said.
