David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Saturday claimed that Georgia had been subjected to years of coordinated and deliberate attacks aimed at pressuring the country into actions contrary to its national interests.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Matikashvili accused media outlets financed by foreign intelligence services of spreading disinformation and engaging in campaigns designed to coerce Georgia.
“A targeted and reckless attack on Georgia and the Georgian people has been ongoing for years in every direction - with the goal of forcing our country and our people to do something that is not in our interests, neither state nor national. They are ready to sign onto anything. Even the distribution of absolute falsehoods is possible for them, as long as they can apply the appropriate pressure and force on our nation”, he said.
The MP also underlined that legislative measures adopted by the Georgian Parliament in recent years have been aimed solely at defending the country’s sovereignty.
“Every piece of legislation adopted by us during this period unequivocally serves the protection of the country’s sovereignty”, Matikashvili concluded.
