The Constitution adopted by the Georgian Dream Government clearly established rights and values, the Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili said on Tuesday in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
In his remarks, the President emphasised that a large part of European values was based on the ideas of Christian teachings and doctrines, adding that’s why Georgia aspires to become a member of the European Union.
He further added that European bureaucrats and European values must be clearly distinguished.
“The Constitution adopted by the [ruling] Georgian Dream [party] clearly establishes our rights and values. The German Constitution was a source of inspiration for us. We are proud of our Constitution. It clearly ensures the protection of rights of all citizens, including minorities. Discrimination is unacceptable in any form. A large part of European values is based on the ideas of Christian teachings and doctrines”, Kavelashvili said.
“Georgians consider themselves part of Europe. That is why Georgia aspires to become a member of the European Union. We must clearly distinguish between European bureaucrats and core European values, which are based on Cristian principles and traditional values. The ruling team recognises marriage only as a union between a man and a woman. Our policy serves to protect traditional values and ensure the protection of the younger generation from LGBT propaganda”, he concluded.
