Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday summed up his official visit to Budapest, noting that Georgia highly values the support of international partners who share the country’s commitment to freedom, democracy and sovereignty, and who prioritise the interests of their own citizens.
“Together with the members of the delegation, I spent two days on an official visit to Budapest, where we held several important meetings. First of all, I would highlight the meeting with Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, where we discussed the friendly relations between our countries and prospects for their deepening”, he said.
“We reviewed regional developments and the difficult situation caused by the Russia-Ukraine war. Particular attention was given to the pseudo-liberal ideology being imposed on the world and posing serious challenges. The Hungarian foreign minister reaffirmed full support for Georgia and conveyed Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s backing for our country’s sovereignty and the Georgian people”, the Mayor noted.
Kaladze thanked the Hungarian Government and Prime Minister Orbán for their continued support.
“I want to once again thank Hungary, its Government and the prime minister for their unwavering support for the Georgian people and our state. We are glad that both Georgia and Hungary are fighting for the truth. This is extremely important in today’s circumstances”, he pointed out.
Kaladze added that the Georgian delegation further took part in an international conference on urban development in European cities.
“During the visit, I had the honor to participate in an international conference on urban development, where the main focus was on challenges facing cities and ways to address them. Special attention was paid to the development of public transport and mobility - our achievements in this direction and the projects planned for the future”, the Mayor said.
“We also discussed emergency housing, the replacement of old and malfunctioning elevators, our approach and the specific programs we are implementing. In addition, we heard how European cities have addressed challenges similar to those we face today. At the invitation of the Hungarian foreign minister, we also attended the unveiling of the monument to renowned Hungarian footballer József Bozsik”, he continued.
Kaladze further stressed the importance of international support.
“For our country, the support of international partners who share Georgia’s freedom, democracy and sovereignty - who share our values and the desire to protect the interests of our citizens - is fundamental and essential. That is why such visits, the exchange of experience and bringing best practices to our capital, aimed at improving the quality of life for our citizens, remain one of our main priorities”, he noted.
Kaladze concluded by emphasising that, in the coming years, Tbilisi would become a much greener, more comfortable and environmentally friendly city, comparable to leading European capitals.
