The Georgian Dream Government has never refused the goal of joining the European Union, the Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili said on Tuesday in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
In his remarks, Kavelashvili noted that EU flags have always been prominently displayed at major rallies of Georgian Dream supporters, and this has consistently been the case for many years.
“The Georgian Dream Government has never rejected European Union membership. At all major gatherings of Georgian Dream [party] supporters, European Union flags have been abundantly displayed, and this has been like this for years”, the President said.
“Unfortunately, no matter how we look at the issue, support today is lower. Let’s think about this: if 80 percent of Georgia’s population supports EU membership, and 60 percent supports Georgian Dream, what does that mean? It means that the majority of the population simultaneously supports both EU integration and Georgian Dream. So, what is the difference between these two facts?” he concluded.
