Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency on Tuesday said that information suggesting the Russian-flagged vessel Midvolga 2 was en route to a Georgian seaport was not supported by any evidence.
Following reports in open sources that Midvolga 2 - attacked near the Turkish coast - was supposedly heading toward Georgian ports, the Maritime Transport Agency issued a statement dismissing the claim.
According to the Agency, internal checks confirmed that the ship had neither been nominated to enter Georgian ports nor requested entry through the country’s maritime systems.
The National Maritime Single Window platform also held no notification signalling any approach of Midvolga 2.
“Therefore, the information that the aforementioned vessel was allegedly heading to a Georgian seaport is not based on any facts”, the Agency said.
