Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Thursday responded to the European Union's tightening of transparency law, saying it was very good that the European Union joined Georgia in this pathos.
“Better late than never. It is very good that the European Union has joined Georgia in this pathos. It is obvious that their criticism of us, specifically regarding the transparency law, served to ensure that they did not want to disclose the funding that was coming to Georgia, which served to aggravate the situation in our country, deepen polarisation, and attack the institutions of our country”, Machavariani said.
The European Union has tightened transparency law - the new directive applies to activities that aim to influence European Union policies, legislation or decision-making processes.
