Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday said the Swedish Foreign Minister had exposed the European Union’s hypocrisy.
Papuashvili responded to the statement of Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, who said that the European Union paid Russia $142 billion more for energy and oil imports than it allocated to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's invasion.
“The hypocrisy of Brussels is already surprising, when you lose your way with values and are completely guided by informal governance, taking steps that are not in line with values”, the Speaker said.
“The Swedish Foreign Minister named these numbers and thereby exposed the European Union’s hypocrisy. When you give $180 billion to Ukraine and $310 billion to Russia, then talking and making claims to someone about economic relations is, of course, shameful. Then you act all self-righteous and still make demands of a country of just 3.5 million people, asking why wine is exported to Russia, when Lithuania is the record-holder in wine exports, Estonia in whiskey exports, and when the EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Kaja Kallas, her husband, and she herself - since she had invested money in that business - were trading with Russia in dual-use goods. The truth is not hidden, and all the hypocrisy that Brussels has had over the past 3 years has surfaced”, he concluded.
