Georgian PM: ending war in Ukraine crucial for continent's economic growth

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday expressed hope that peace would eventually be established in the region, in Ukraine, which he said was vital for the continuation of the economic development process on the European continent.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that there were, in fact, double standards at play.

“They criticized us for not imposing sanctions, they criticized us for having very limited trade relations with Russia. Meanwhile, for example, the Baltic states, which are the most aggressive in this regard, sell four times more wine to Russia - this applies to Latvia and Lithuania. This is the kind of double standard that exists. Moreover, these countries have much more active trade with Russia in other areas than Georgia does. Therefore, their claims were unfounded”, he said.

“As for the general development of these processes, we will see, we will wait for events. We hope that peace will eventually be established in our region, in Ukraine, which is of vital importance for the continuation of the economic development process on the European continent”, Kobakhidze concluded.
