Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday criticised the secret meetings between Olivier Courteaud, the French Ambassador to the country, and the opposition figure Sergi Kapanadze, the head of the Georgian Reform Association.
In his remarks over the matter, Kaladze noted that ambassadors of various countries were busy with Georgia's internal political affairs, while the activities of ambassadors were related to diplomacy.
“To be honest, I did not expect this type of action from the French Ambassador. I had a meeting with the Ambassador a few weeks ago, where he directly said that he would be open and that there would be no interference in internal political affairs on his part, however, it turned out that he was secretly meeting with a representative of a violent group. When we see that ambassadors are interfering in the internal political affairs of a country, are busy with politics when they should be engaged in diplomacy, all this is very bad”, Kaladze said.
