Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Wednesday responded to the cancellation of the meeting planned by the European Union in Brussels, saying European bureaucracy, led by the deep state, refused one of the European values - dialogue.
In his remarks, Gorduladze noted that the composition of the Georgian delegation was solely the prerogative of Tbilisi, not Brussels, and sanctioning specific officials was a lever of pressure from Brussels.
“One of the European values, of course, is dialogue and, of course, only speaking about the truth. But we see that now the European bureaucracy led by the deep state refuses to communicate. For them, only political statements are important, which are detrimental to the interests of the country. In order to exert pressure, sanctions are being imposed on certain officials in Georgia, which is categorically unacceptable and it is not up to anyone to decide who will be included in the delegation as a representative of Georgia. No one has the right to dislike someone or to have the delegation staffed with those they like. Yes, those people who protect the interests of the Georgian people will participate”, Gorduladze said.
The European Union has postponed the Georgia-European Union Human Rights Dialogue scheduled in Brussels a few days before the meeting. The Georgian side has done significant preparatory work to provide the European Union with relevant information on the issues on the agenda, but as noted in the statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Brussels was not ready to listen to Georgia's arguments.
