Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said that the European bureaucracy itself had suspended Georgia’s EU integration process on June 27, 2024 and is now “absurdly” claiming that Georgia halted the process on November 27.
In his interview with the Adjara Public Broadcaster, Kobakhidze commented on the EU Ambassador’s June statement regarding the suspension of Georgia’s accession trajectory, noting that the Ambassador repeatedly stated before the elections that Georgia’s EU integration had been frozen, and the newly published document serves as additional written confirmation.
“Public statements are considered weaker evidence, and now they have produced specific documentary proof that, according to the European bureaucracy, Georgia’s EU integration process was suspended on 27 June 2024. Everything is clear. Then they came out and claimed that we supposedly suspended on 27 November the very integration they themselves halted in June. This level of absurdity means you are operating entirely under informal governance”, he said.
Kobakhidze added that “everyone knows” the European bureaucracy operated under informal influence and that both European bodies and certain EU Governments “have effectively lost their independence”, noting Hungary and Slovakia as exceptions.
“There are major oligarchic and corporate influences directing European structures. Today, both specific countries and the European bureaucracy as a whole have lost their sovereignty and independence”, the PM concluded.
