Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Monday said that from a political convenience perspective, European bureaucrats deliberated on whom to restrict visa-free travel and whom not to.
In his remarks, Gorduladze noted that this was an example of how the deep state fights to punish those for whom the country’s sovereignty was paramount.
“If until now specific indicators and grounds, such as the increase in illegal migration, were important for regulating visa-free travel in the EU, now the political factor has fully entered the process. Accordingly, European bureaucrats consider visa-free access based on political expediency - they decide whether to restrict or allow certain countries or individuals, particularly those who are under significant influence from the deep state. This is yet another example of how the deep state fights to punish those for whom the country’s sovereignty is most important”, Gorduladze said.
The EU is considering a simplified procedure for suspending visa-free travel.
Discussions on individual countries will begin in December, and Georgia could potentially be affected, as European bureaucrats have indicated.
