Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday reiterated that his Government was taking full responsibility for implementing the Eagle Hills investment project in complete accordance with Georgia’s national interests, emphasising that its opponents were motivated by hostility toward Georgia’s development.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze highlighted that the project involved no sale of land to foreign entities, no risks in the form of unusual financial guarantees, and no “Arabization” narratives used by critics.
“On the one hand - no so-called Arabization, no transfer of land to foreigners, no manipulations in calculating the size of the investment”, he said.
In contrast, the Prime Minister pointed to the project’s potential to create tens of thousands of jobs, generate significant income for the state budget, and stimulate further large-scale investor activity in Georgia.
“On the other hand - 24,000 temporary and 8,000 permanent jobs, an additional 11 billion injected into Georgia’s economy, ₾700 million ($255 million) in additional annual revenue to the state budget, top-standard developed urban spaces in Krtsanisi and Gonio, new opportunities for tourism development, no financial obligations, no financial guarantees or non-standard conditions towards the partner company, and a stimulus for other major companies to make large-scale investments in the Georgian economy”, he noted.
Kobakhidze further noted that the scale and economic impact of the Eagle Hills development made it predictable that certain foreign actors - whom he referred to as “ill-wishers” - would attempt to discredit the initiative.
“When one investment project has such a massive impact on the country’s development, it is unsurprising that Georgia’s foreign ill-wishers are so active against it and are mobilizing their agents with maximum effort. However, the most important thing is the truth, and I believe that under such conditions, the choice of the Government and of every well-informed citizen is very simple. Our choice is peace and development for Georgia and a better future for Georgians. The Government takes full responsibility for the implementation of the project in full protection of Georgia’s national interests”, the Prime Minister concluded.
