Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday responded to the German Ambassador Peter Fischer’s attendance at a protest rally on Rustaveli Avenue by saying that his actions went beyond diplomacy.
“Nothing new is happening. We know that the deep state has its representatives in Georgia. They directly lead violent groups and are in full coordination with them on how to act. It is very sad when an Ambassador is engaged in this type of activity. Of course, this goes beyond any diplomatic activity”, Kaladze said.
“As for the fact that Fischer was recalled for consultations and then returned, I will tell you honestly, I don't care at all where he was recalled and returned. The main issue here is that a diplomat, instead of engaging in diplomatic activities, does everything else. This is very serious. How can you imagine that in any developed country, an Ambassador of a foreign country would be engaged in encouraging violent groups and giving direct instructions”, he continued.
Kaladze also responded to a document published by the Georgian media outlet Prime Time, which was sent to the local opposition from Brussels by specific high-ranking European Union officials and read by an opposition representative at a briefing.
“All this once again indicates that they are in full coordination with external forces, they carry out whatever tasks they receive. They have no right to act differently. It was also written in the text that no changes should be made”, he concluded.
