Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday said that when even the US Secretary of State had to publicly urge Brussels to stop lecturing other countries, it showed that the European Union had gone too far in assuming the role of a moral authority.
In his remarks, Papuashvili stressed that this echoed the position repeatedly voiced by the Georgian side as well.

His comment came in response to the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that the European Union had no authority to define international law or determine how the United States should defend its national security, emphasising that the country was under attack from organised criminal narco-terrorist groups in the region and that “US President Donald Trump is responding in the defense of our country”.
“When even the US Secretary of State is compelled to rebuke Brussels publicly to stop talking to other countries in a reproaching tone, it becomes evident that Brussels got a bit too deep into character of a false moralizer. This is what we have said too”, Papuashvili concluded.
