Thanks to Georgia’s thoughtful and principled foreign policy, the country is today a regional leader in terms of stability and progress, with Georgian diplomats playing an especially important role, said on Wednesday Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
In his remarks during an event marking Diplomat’s Day, Kobakhidze congratulated diplomats on their professional day and expressed gratitude for their dedicated service and professionalism, which serve the country’s interests, foreign policy priorities, and the strengthening of national sovereignty.
“Celebrating Diplomat’s Day has become a tradition and is symbolically linked to the distinguished Georgian thinker and public figure Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, whose work laid the foundations of Georgian diplomacy. This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of Akaki Chkhenkeli, the Foreign Minister of the First Republic and an outstanding diplomat. It is important that Georgian diplomats continue to serve with dignity, following the example of these figures, defend Georgia’s interests, safeguard its sovereignty, and strengthen the country’s position on the international stage”, he noted.
The PM emphasised that the Government’s foremost priority remained de-occupation, the peaceful restoration of territorial integrity, and ensuring peace and development, which he described as the answer to all of the country’s challenges.
“The past five years, and especially the last three, have presented many challenges for Georgia. In this context, the role of Georgian diplomats has been particularly significant. We are proud that during these years the Georgian diplomatic corps and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have served Georgia’s national interests with principle and pride”, he said.
“I would like to extend my special thanks to every ambassador and every employee of the Ministry. Once again, I congratulate our diplomatic corps on their professional day, thank you, and wish you success in your highly responsible work”, Kobakhidze concluded.
