Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reaffirmed his Government’s strong foreign policy priority - full-fledged European Union membership - during an exclusive interview with Euronews.
Despite challenges related to European bureaucracy, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that Georgia’s accession to the EU by 2030 was an attainable objective.
“Today, we face significant challenges related to European bureaucracy. Nevertheless, we remain highly optimistic that Georgia’s EU membership by 2030 is a realistic and achievable goal. This is our interim objective, and we are steadily following the path toward it. I hope that in the coming years, Georgia will be treated more fairly. We will spare no effort in advancing on our European path”, the PM said.
The Prime Minister emphasised his Government’s commitment to fostering a constructive relationship with the EU.
He noted that the current obstacles stem from European bureaucratic policies rather than Georgia’s own stance.
“We are interested in maintaining a healthy relationship with the European Union, which we do not fully observe at this stage. However, we firmly believe that the reason lies not in Georgia’s policy but in the EU’s bureaucratic approach toward our country. If this approach changes, everything will improve. We remain steadfast on our European integration path and are fully prepared to fulfill all obligations under the Association Agreement and DCFTA. There is a very clear agenda in place. We will exercise patience and await the EU’s decisions regarding Georgia’s European integration while consistently implementing all necessary commitments to accelerate this process”, he concluded.
