If Eurocrats fail to draw conclusions in time, negative attitudes toward them will grow even further, Rati Ionatamishvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration, said on Wednesday.
Ionatamishvili made the statement in response to remarks by the EU Ambassador to the United Nations, who called for the repeal of Georgia’s laws and spoke of alleged repression.
In his remarks, Ionatamishvili said that Eurobureaucrats were displeased by the fact that individuals detained during the protests had admitted their guilt, expressed remorse, and appealed to the President of Georgia for a pardon.
“It is a fact that Eurocrats were very displeased that these people admitted their guilt, repented, and appealed to the President of Georgia for a pardon. At the same time, this statement is effectively a confession that these Eurocrats themselves were behind these escalations and encouraged violence in Georgia”, he said.
Ionatamishvili further argued that the issue surrounding the detainees, which he described as artificially created, was losing its effectiveness as a political tool, leaving its proponents increasingly desperate.
“That is why they are making statements that have no basis whatsoever. If Eurocrats fail to draw conclusions in time, negative attitudes toward them will grow even further”, Ionatamishvili concluded.
