Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Saturday praised veterans for their courage, loyalty and selfless service to the country, stressing that protecting their dignity, health and well-being remains a moral duty and a priority for the state and society.
Speaking at an event marking Veterans Day, Kavelashvili described veterans as role models for future generations and highlighted their contribution to Georgia’s freedom and statehood.
“Dear veterans, your loyalty, courage and selfless service to the homeland are the highest expressions of patriotism. You are role models for future generations”, he said.
“Congratulations on October 17, Veterans Day, a date observed throughout Georgia with special respect, pride and profound gratitude. This is a day when the entire nation bows in unison before those who have shaped our country’s modern history through their blood, dedication and indomitable spirit”, the President continued.
Kavelashvili highlighted Georgia as a homeland of heroes, saying that the country's centuries-old history, marked by many hardships, is irrefutable proof of this.
“Each of you here is a living, dignified and inseparable part of that history. Our national memory forever honours the heroes who sacrificed the most precious thing they had - their lives - for Georgia’s freedom. Glory and honour to their memory. It was their self-sacrifice that breathed life into our statehood”, he noted.
Kavelashvili stressed that the government has a responsibility to ensure that every veteran feels respected, supported and appreciated by the state every day.
“Your contribution to our nation and country is invaluable. Caring for veterans and safeguarding your dignity, health and well-being are a moral duty and an unwavering priority for our state and society. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that each of you feels the state’s due respect, support and appreciation every day”, he said.
“Today, as the world faces an especially difficult and unstable period, with global security challenges, wars and conflicts raging across several continents, it is you who understand best the true value of peace and freedom. Your experience teaches us that peace cannot be taken for granted. It requires constant vigilance, resilience, a strong state and national unity”, the President continued.
He expressed confidence that a country that remembers its heroes, values their contributions and honours their legacy has a strong foundation and a bright future.
“Our national spirit rests on historical memory and the unbroken bond between generations. I firmly believe that a country that remembers its heroes, values their contributions and preserves their legacy has a solid foundation and a bright future”, Kavelashvili noted.
“Once again, I congratulate you on Veterans Day and thank you for the dedication and loyalty you have shown to our homeland. May God bless Georgia!” the President concluded.
