The European Union on Saturday issued a statement highlighting its support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty while rejecting the legitimacy of the so-called “presidential elections” held in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region.
In a statement issued by the EU spokesperson, the European Union reaffirmed its firm stance on the territorial integrity of Georgia.
The statement emphasised that the EU did not recognise the constitutional or legal framework in which the so-called “elections” took place on Saturday.
The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as recognised by international law, while maintaining its policy of non-recognition and engagement with the affected regions.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned the so-called "presidential elections" held in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region, stressing that these actions were grossly violating Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
