A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the village of Bershueti in Gori Municipality on June 22, has been released and is now in territory controlled by the central government of Georgia, said on Thursday the State Security Service of Georgia.
The Service stated that all relevant mechanisms available to the central government were actively employed during the process of securing the citizen’s release, including the “hotline” operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia.
“The State Security Service continues to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain illegally detained in the occupied territories. The occupying force bears responsibility for all destructive actions committed in Georgia’s occupied territories, as well as along the occupation line”, the statement said.
