A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained in the vicinity of the occupied Tskhinvali region on December 5, 2025, has been released and is now in territory controlled by the central government, Georgia’s State Security Service (SSSG) said.
According to the SSSG, the Georgian central government had repeatedly raised the issue of the citizen’s unconditional release through the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and the Geneva International Discussions.
“The hotline mechanism, as well as all relevant instruments available to the central government, were used intensively. International partners were actively involved in the negotiations”, the agency said.
The SSSG added that the central government, together with its international partners, would continue working to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain illegally detained in the occupied territories.
