The meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, a platform for discussions between Georgian Government officials and de facto authorities in the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region of central Georgia, took place on Friday in the central Georgian village of Ergneti, focusing on the process of illegal ‘borderisation’ and unlawful detention of Georgian citizens along the occupation line.
The representatives of the Georgian Government emphasised the urgent need to release all individuals unlawfully detained, while strongly condemning the recent illegal ‘borderisation’ activities identified during the past period.
The participants also addressed the humanitarian issues faced by the local population living along the occupation line and explored possible solutions to these challenges.
The next IPRM meeting has been scheduled for April 3.
Irakli Antadze, the Deputy Head of the Information and Analytical Department of the State Security Service of Georgia, noted that the meeting focused on the release of Georgian citizens detained in the Russian-occupied territories.
He also highlighted the importance of bringing justice for citizens killed along the occupation line or in the Russian-occupied regions.
“During the discussions, we raised the case of Tamaz Ginturi. Our position remains unchanged, but ensuring justice remains a priority - not only in the case of Tamaz Ginturi, but also for all our citizens who have been killed along the occupation line or in the occupied territories”, Antadze said.
