The deepening strategic cooperation in the energy sector between Georgia and Turkey was discussed on Friday in a meeting between Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
The meeting was described as productive and strategic, laying the groundwork for enhanced regional energy integration.
The ministers emphasised that energy remains a core pillar of economic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Kvrivishvili noted that green energy investment had become a particularly dynamic area of engagement.
“We outlined new plans to develop existing power transmission lines through a joint schedule to increase electricity transmission capacity between our countries. This will, of course, enhance trade opportunities between our nations and improve Georgia’s transit and export performance”, she said.
Over the last five years, Turkish companies have invested more than $150 million in Georgia’s energy infrastructure.
One of the primary focuses of the discussion was the improvement and expansion of existing energy infrastructure.
The two countries are currently connected by the 400-kilovolt “Meskheti” transmission line, which supports electricity trade and system integration between Georgia and Turkey.
