Natia Turnava, the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, on Saturday emphasised the importance of strengthening financial cooperation between Georgia and China, aligning banking sector ties with the rapidly growing economic relationship between the two countries.
In her remarks, Turnava noted that while Georgia and China had enjoyed historically good relations, the recent surge in economic cooperation necessitated stronger financial sector alignment.
“Historically, Georgia and China have maintained very good relations. However, given the recent surge in economic cooperation - reflected in trade, investments, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges - our financial sector cooperation must also align with this growing trend”, Turnava said.
The National Bank of Georgia and the People's Bank of China on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The agreement was signed by Natia Turnava, the Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and Pan Gongsheng, the Governor of the Central Bank of China. The MoU was signed as part of the Georgian National Bank delegation's visit to China, led by Turnava.
During her visit to China, Turnava met with representatives of the People's Bank of China and executives from major Chinese banks to discuss financial cooperation.
