On the 17th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia War, Georgian officials on Friday gathered at Mukhatgverdi Cemetery to pay their respects to the soldiers who died in the conflict.
High-ranking members of the executive and legislative branches were in attendance.
Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani emphasised the lasting commitment to the fallen heroes and their families
“This is an extremely difficult day in modern Georgian history. Seventeen years have passed since the Russia-Georgia War. The soldiers, the brave sons of Georgia who lie here, defended our homeland and sacrificed the most precious thing they had - their lives”, he noted.
Chikovani pledged that the entire defence force and Ministry would honour the memory of the fallen and support their families.
“We, as the entire defense force, the ministry, and I personally, will do everything to honor their memory with dignity and, of course, to support their families”, the Minister concluded.
