Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said the Georgian Government remained steadfast in its policy of maintaining peace.
In his address at a ceremony marking the Day of the Defence Forces, Papuashvili highlighted the particular effort, wisdom, and skill required to preserve peace in today's challenging global environment.
“The Georgian army’s strength, unwavering resolve, and courage underpin the government's efforts to avert the threats of war and provocation”, the Speaker said.
Papuashvili stressed that the spirit, support, and readiness of the armed forces were deeply felt, emphasising that every soldier is invaluable and must be protected.
“Over the past three years, we have witnessed both interest and attempts to turn Georgia into a battlefield in a large-scale confrontation between major powers. This is a clear example that everyone must fully understand - to grasp precisely what we have managed to avoid”, Papuashvili added.
He also addressed the families and loved ones of soldiers who died heroically in the line of duty, paying tribute to their sacrifice.
“Today, we also honor those who died heroically while fulfilling their duty. Their bravery fortified the fortress of our country’s freedom and independence. To their parents, children, and spouses - your sons, fathers, and husbands are our shared pride. We bow before their courage and sacrifice”, the Speaker noted.
Papuashvili congratulated all members of the Defence Forces and reiterated the state’s dedication to ensuring that national defense remains a collective responsibility.
“We are proud of you and thank you for your honorable service. May God protect all of Georgia”, he concluded.
