Defence

Today marks the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Georgian Army.
The roots of the modern Georgian military can be traced back to December 1990, when the National Guard was established as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia by a decree of the Supreme Council.
The subsequent development of the Georgian Army built upon this foundation. A significant step was taken on April 24, 1991, when the Cabinet of Ministers issued a decree concerning the conscription of citizens for mandatory military service.
The official commencement of this conscription on April 30, 1991, is recogniыed as the starting point for the establishment of the Georgian Army.
